jon neprud: mother earth
Jon Neprud was born in Appleton, Wisconsin in 1960. I attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, in Boston, from 1994 to1989. I displayed works in many galleries and settings both nationally and internationally including in Boston, Hyannis, SS Hingham, Lincon, Newburyport, Rowley, Sudbury, Wayland, MA; Fort Pierce & Vero Beach, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Hiram, Sebago, Ilseboro, ME; Baltimore, & Rockville, MD; Wesphalia &Northeim, Germany; Athens & Hydra, Greece.
As a student at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, I began working in ceramics. I gradually changed to wood steel and stone since these materials better enhanced my sculptures. At this point I primarily working through the mediums of steel and mosaic glass.
I feel that my work is complementary to the strength and flow of nature. I initially looked at the geometric spaces of the city, but gradually felt more drawn towards the space and rhythm of natural forms. The growth of crystals under the earth and banks or coral under the sea creates the same forms that inspire my sculptures. Other influences such as animals, landscape, and history also affect my works. These influences create an illusion of an inanimate object becoming animate. I wish to create a similar illusion. The rhythm of my work establishes an expanding sense of space, a flowing movement, a coming together of energy.
Community involvement; P.O.B.E.1540,Fort Pierce, FL, member since 2005. Art Mundo Fort Pierce, FL. member since 2012. Treasure Coast Art Association Fort Pierce, FL. member since 2013.
